Through over fifty undergraduate major, minor, and graduate programs in eleven academic departments, the Irene Ransom Bradley School of Nursing, extensive participation in the University General Education Program, and three interdisciplinary programs, the College of Arts and Sciences prepares students for contemporary global citizenship as life-long learners and significant contributors to communities- local, regional, and global.

The College of Arts and Sciences is central to the academic mission of Pittsburg State University through our graduate and undergraduate programs, partnership with the College of Education to offer secondary teaching credentials, over 90% of the General Education Program, and foundation courses for most majors and minors across the entire University.   Programs in the College span a wide variety of fields including the arts (art, music, theatre), humanities (English, history, philosophy), social sciences (geography, justice studies, political science, sociology), and natural sciences (biology, chemistry, math, and physics).  Examples of our professional programs include nursing, social work, broadcasting, and advertising/public relations, along with pre-professional opportunities in medicine, other health-related fields, and law.

Arts and Sciences is the largest of four colleges at the University providing majors for more than half of all Pittsburg State students. Faculty are dedicated and student-centered teachers, active artists, performers, practitioners, and scholars, as well as major contributors to their professions and communities.

The College of Arts and Sciences provides various facilities and activities for campus and community enrichment: music and theatre programs in the new Bicknell Family Center for the Arts, the Kelce Planetarium in Yates Hall, the Museum of Art with a large gallery in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts and the Krug as well as  University galleries in Porter Hall, the Early Childhood Pre-School Lab, the Nature Research environmental education extension programs, and state-of-the-art Polymer Science research laboratories, just to name a few of the avenues where we impact the campus and region.
